A vision board exercise is a form of self expression that allows you to get lost in your creativity while focusing on what you want for yourself and your life, and claiming it with images, words and color. One of the best and most effective forms of motivation and creative inspiration is visual. The sense of sight is one of the strongest senses in the human body. So utilize this to your benefit and create a vision board to clarify your direction for the new year and beyond.
Making a vision board is a great way to bring your ideas, hopes and aspirations for your life in the new year and beyond out on paper. And the best part is that you do not need a whole lot of supplies or even spend too much money on creating your vision board. Plus there is something so powerful about vocalizing your hopes, dreams and aspirations even if it is just to yourself. This powerful form of manifestation builds self-confidence and a sense of self-worth.
Beth Majerszky, a life coach for women entrepreneurs in Illinois, USA regularly hosts vision board workshops and she shares some tips on the importance of vision boards and how to’s for a successful vision board session. From Beth,
When I begin the process of creating a Vision Board, images, words, and colors will speak to me – almost as if they are saying, ‘pick me’. Sometimes they are images or colors I don’t particularly like, but I follow the intuitive guidance and when I look back and see those images and colors, I realize that an abundance of something I could have never dreamed up is now present in my life.
That is the power of vision boards. They bring forward that what lies in our inner mind. All the dreams and aspirations that we know we want to pursue but might not quite know how or what they look like.
There really are no limitations when you allow the vision to appear.
It is important to set aside time to consider what you are wanting to have in your life and how you want to ‘be’ in the world. It is not just about material things, what is your soul yearning for. It is also critical to not think about the how. This is about visioning and dreaming so don’t allow any restrictions to limit you.

Process on how to create a vision board
- Simply put all that a vision board needs is for you to start snipping. Trust your eye and your gut. Grab words, images or even phases that speak to you. An image might represent a big-picture goal or simply capture the way you want your life to feel.
- Find a space where you can spread out and your board assembly process won’t be disturbed. A table or a desk or even the floor in a non-breezy room so that the supplies don’t fly away would be ideal.
- Get creative and artistic by arranging, editing, adding or even embellishing. Glue stuff down once you are happy with the way a certain section or the entire board looks. You can start from a specific corner or even start from the center and spread out in a spiral fashion.
- Make it a vision board party by inviting your friends and family to the vision board process. You don’t have to do this alone if you don’t want to.
- Find a place to hang your board such that it motives you everyday. You can even take a photo of it with your smart phone so that you can carry your vision board inspiration with you everywhere you go.
