CulturallyOurs Entrepreneurial Lessons From The Field Mumbai India

#1 Can you tell us a little bit about who you are and where are you from and what is your business?

My name is Bhumika Talreja and I am a Creative Marketer in Mumbai, India. I handle marketing and social media for various clients in different fields. Getting people to achieve their goals through offline and online marketing is my forte. I am on my own since a little over 2 years now (started in 2016 to be exact). Before that i was heading sales & marketing for a diamond jewellery firm. I have a creative passion for thinking differently and designing graphics. I also do basic photography and styling for my clients. Since childhood i was inclined towards art and creating new things. That’s just what has lead me to be here. I absolutely love to play with graphics, colors and styles.I also write as a passion. So my work is just a summation of all things i love to do.

#2 What has been your biggest win/ah-ha moment and what has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest win is to be able to work with other women. Most of my clients have been women entrepreneurs and it gives me immense thrill to see them achieve what they want to.

All this while we are also battling with the pressures of being the ideal women in different roles that we may play! So one of my biggest challenge has been balancing my personal life. Because a woman trying to make something on her own and trying to put her career first is always a task. The most annoying is when my own friends and family do not understand the struggle.

#3 As an entrepreneur we sometime are alone at the helm steering our ship without any help and support – both mentally and physically – have you ever felt that way? And how and where do you find your support system?

Being an entrepreneur has taught me that you are your own boss and your own slave. You are responsible for every task right from the lower management level to the top. I have literally had to run out for odd jobs like getting papers printed or contracts mailed and such stuff which normally i would delegate. But the process has made me very humble and made me realize the importance of every job. My support system is generally my faith in the higher power and it’s through Him that i learnt not to give up or get discouraged. Also there are other fellow entrepreneurs which motivate you when you are dealing with something.

I am a big reader and get a lot of my support from books as well.

#4 What does the business and entrepreneurial landscape look like where you are based?

I am in Mumbai, and the entrepreneur scene is on the rise by the day! It’s amazing to see so many wonderful people pursuing their dreams and not choosing a 9 to 5 desk job.

#5 Lets talk motivation / mindset / growth / business for a moment – unlike Corporate where someone else is in charge, for an entrepreneur it is all you – so how do you keep yourself motivated and excited about your future?

Yes, rightly being an entrepreneur means it’s just You. I am an avid reader and believer in the Universe and its powers. Every time i am faced with a set back, i remind myself of how far i have already come. The key is to count your blessings & achievements. I believe in constant hardwork and hustle. When you are giving in all the efforts, the Universe will reward you. ALso the little things like a client being happy or paying a compliment, even if it’s just on social media goes a long way in motivating.

I have had times when i just did not break even in a month but there have been other times where God has been very kind. So I have learnt to be patient and balanced.

When you are trying to build a business, the dynamics are much different than getting a salary credited at the end of each month. But, you have to learn to cope with the highs and lows and just keep going. Just like rowing a boat.

I personally love to travel a lot. So one of the things i do is i set small goals of earning a certain amount to be able to afford the next holiday. SO that is definitely a motivation to work harder. And the vacations is just satisfying when it’s well worked for!

#6 If you could go back in time to when you first started, would you do it all over again? Or would you change something and what would it be?

I think every step of the journey has been a learning curve. And things have fallen right in the place they were supposed to. SO no, i would not change a thing and I would definitely take this path again.

Thank you so much Bhumika for taking the time to share your story with us.
