Perhaps such is the nature of us humans that we often chase the moon and the stars when what we have right around us is just as precious and special. Don’t you agree? As I have been researching and writing about travel adventures close to home, I have come to realize that there is so much beauty and wonder right where we are. It seems quite funny that even though I have now lived in North America for over 20 years, I have only been to Canada twice and Mexico once. And I don’t think a trip to Cancun really counts because what I got to see and experience there was just like any other beach town in the US.But Mexico is so much more than just beaches and spring break parties, right? With so much culture and history, ancient archeological sites, rich food culture and natural diversity, it is a country worth spending a lot of time wandering, exploring and experiencing. Which is why I am so thrilled to welcome Carol and Mario a husband-and-wife duo from Mexico on today’s podcast episode.

Carol and Mario are born and raised in Mexico and after many years working in corporate, started a travel company to tell real and authentic stories of their home country. They share some truly unique experiences that people can have in Mexico. From food to culture and history and art, Mexico has so much to offer and there is something to see and do in almost every corner.Carol says, “Mexico is a place where all our senses are alive – food, family, friends and community. People are very vocal with lots of hugs and smiles to go around everywhere you go.” We also talked about how travel is changing in Mexico – where locals are going out and exploring their own country instead of focusing on just international travel – definitely a change we have seen in many places in the world as a result of the pandemic.When I asked them to give me an itinerary of places to explore in Mexico, Mario jumped right in. He said, “Mexico is not just Cancun you know! In fact, I would recommend you skip Cancun and instead spend time in Mexico City. With so many archeological sites, a vibrate city square, trendy architecture, art history, coffee shops, bars and food stalls you can easily spend so much time wandering around the city – a visual feat for all your senses.”I don’t know about you but as soon as I feel comfortable enough for international travel, I am hitting up Carol and Mario to help me plan a trip to my neighbor in the south.
