If you have been following me on social media or know me personally, you have heard me speak about my love for the mountains time and time again. They are my happy place for sure. The mountains sooth me, give me hope, a sense of peace and also a sense of being alive. I feel grounded in the strength I get even when I just gauze upon them.John Muir’s famous quote – The mountains are calling, I must go – is like my life’s mantra. And lucky for me, my family feels the same way too. Being in the midwest, the closest mountains for us are over 14 hours away in Colorado and believe me, we have been known to pack the car in under two hours and make the drive just cause we wanted a glimpse of the majestic Rockies over a long weekend. I think our shortest trip to Colorado and the mountains was a 72 hour round trip journey. Yup, I am that person!
So it should come as no surprise that my guest today on the CulturallyOurs podcast is the lovely Emmy Gaines, a long time Colorado native living in Denver – one of my favorite cites in the world. Emmy is a photographer specializing in helping couples create an elopement or anniversary photography experience that reconnects their hearts and rekindles their love. And she does this in some of the most epic locations around the state. From hot springs, to Ice caves and of course, with the wonderful Rocky mountains as a backdrop, Emmy’s photography brings a sense of wanderlust that is so appropriate for the state of Colorado.
Emmy shares some of her favorite locations as well as activities to do in Denver and the surrounding areas. From exploring alpine lakes, white water rafting, wandering small towns known for their mountain charm to local pizza joints that are sure to satisfy all taste buds, Emmy shows us there is so much more to Colorado. We talk in depth about the Leave no trace principle as it relates to travel which is so important for so many reasons.
So come join Emmy and me as we explore Colorado and all that Rocky mountain majesty on this episode of CulturallyOurs.
As always I would be remiss if I did not mention that due to changing travel advisories and restrictions as a result of the global pandemic, please check local and country specific travel guidelines before visiting.
