Like many of us who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, one of my favorite movie series of all times was Indiana Jones. I have actually lost count of how many times I have watched those movies till date. I mean, what not to love about archeology, exploration and the sheer thrill of adventure, right? Perhaps one of my favorites of the whole series was Indiana Jones and the last crusade in huge part due to the two Dr. Joneses as well as the fact that so much of the later half of the movie showcased Petra. I have always been fascinated by one of the original wonders of the world but to see it in the movie just brought out so much more wanderlust in me. A world UNESCO site, the architecture, ancient history and majesty of Petra bears such a great testament to the ingenuity, imagination and sheer hard work of which human beings are capable. It continues to fascinate me till date and Jordan is one of the top countries I want to explore when life gets back to normal.
So it was only natural for me to connect with someone from Jordan as I wanted to know more about this fascinating country with its diverse landscapes, rich cultural history and amazing people. I am so excited to welcome Tracy Swift to the CulturallyOurs podcast to talk to us about Jordan and give us a local’s perspective.
Tracy is a photographer and international development consultant based in Amman, Jordan. Originally from the US, Tracy has spent over half her life living and working in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. She has been living in Amman with her family for a few years now and shares with us some of her favorites – from places to eat, outdoor spaces to explore and even some off-the-beaten-path adventures that are sure to bring out our inner Indiana Jones and who wouldn’t want that right, especially with the backdrop of the majestic Petra and Wadi Rum desert.
The regions of the middle east have so much to offer to us in terms of ancient history, natural beauty, culture, and interactions with local communities. And thank you to Tracy Swift for sharing a little piece of Jordan with us on this episode of CulturallyOurs.
As always I would be remiss if I did not mention that due to changing travel advisories and restrictions as a result of the global pandemic, please check local and country specific travel guidelines before visiting.
