Who doesn’t love an elegant tablescapes decoration especially when it is DIY with a few simple elements that are most likely around your house anyway. Perhaps it is the promise of Spring that is in the air or the fact that flowers are starting to bloom and Sunday brunch invitations are on the rise. Whatever the reason here is a simple, easy and most importantly DIY tablescape setup for you to try at your next brunch gathering or even just for a dressed up family meal.
We have teamed up with two talented ladies Jess of My Style Project who is an event planner and Jen of FlowersbyJenB who is a local florist to create a simple, elegant DIY Spring inspired tablescape setting that is easy to setup for your next gathering. One of the basic and easy ways to really spruce up any tablescape are fresh florals. If you can forage flowers from your garden or backyard, that can add more of a DIY element to this setup. Here we used florals from our friend Jen who is a local florist in the area. Jen coordinated the color pallet for the florals but you can really choose any color scheme you like. This makes the whole setup ‘season neutral’ and can be applied anytime of the year. We choose a pastel color scheme and the florals match that scheme.
Don’t be afraid of arranging your own flowers. There’s just a few simple rules to follow: pick colors to complement or contrast with your decor and vary the textures. We wanted to give a feeling of abundance and overflow with the florals and hence opted for flowers of many different heights that spill out of the vase. Super easy and oh so pretty!
To add a touch of elegance and an intimate feeling to this sit-down table setup, Jess from My Style Project choose white plate chargers, grey and white plates, vintage thrifted silverware and vintage thrifted brass candle sticks. The candle and candlesticks are of various heights and this again adds an element of imperfection a.k.a wabi-sabi to the whole setup. We wanted to encourage the use of elements in and around the house and not everyone may have the perfect set of candlesticks lying around. So use what you have and let go of perfection.
In lieu of name tags or professionally printed menus, we opted for handwritten individual menu cards. The menus were written on soft tissue paper and held down on the plate with springs of green foliage that were left over from the floral centerpiece, adding a touch of softness to the plating arrangement.
Candles are always a wonderful addition to any table arrangement. Vary the height of the candles to add areas of interest and a little flair to the setup. We used grey and white candles of varying heights along with candlesticks of varying heights to this table. If there are little one or kids as part of your gathering, maybe opt out of candles and use smaller tea lights instead.
One thing to keep in mind is to light the candle just before the guests sit down and the meal is served so that the right ambience is created with that soft candlelight glow.Tablescaping or decorating your table for a gathering or family meal doesn’t have to be hard or complicated. Start with a few simple elements and just build on those. To really take a DIY approach use foraged florals or even blooming branches from your own garden, your own silverware or even borrow some from friends and watch the magic unfold.
